Home Sweet Home

I arrived home and everyone is happy to see me. Everyone wants a lot of my time before I go off in about a week to a research program in another state.

I was going to introduce my family to my blog, but I’ve been somewhat hesitant. I like the comfort of blogging anonymously. I was going to tell my mom first, she’d probably be the most intrigued. But then I realized she might not know what a blog was:

Me: Mom, do you happen to know what a blog is?
Mom: Is it like that Chuck Norris stuff?

WTF??? I knew this conversation could get interesting and

Me: No mom. I’m referring to the internet.
Mom: Ohh…
Me: So what about Twitter?
Mom: Is it like when you get cold and you start shaking?

This was getting too good.

Me: Do you know what facebook is?
Mom: Is it some type of cat?

Needless to say I didn’t want to overwhelm her and say I have a blog. She’d probably go into describing some internet horror stories she has heard. And continue by telling me how dangerous the internet could be and how I could be kidnapped.

  • Hey, found your blog through 20SB :) I think this is really funny - I've actually been thinking about showing my blog to my mother. Which most likely would be fine, because I don't get too personal on my blog. But, at the same time, she is REALLY paranoid like you said and would go on and on about how dangerous it is to put your information out there for everyone to see. Haha, so I'm still debating :P

  • such a lovely and funny conversation with your mom. i guess most parents of our generation don't know much about facebook, twitter and blogs. but they do know about the internet, yahoo messenger and skype. only my sisters know that i blog but i don't know if they ever bother reading it. i doubt it.

  • This would be so like a conversation with my mom...right down to the kidnapping part.

  • Yeah, intelligence is definitely a kind of curse, and you clearly have it.

If you really want to blog anonymously, you can't tell anyone. Word gets around quick.
  • Super cool blog!

  • LOL! Those snippets of conversation are hilarious!

My family KNOWS about my blog, but I don't think they ever bother reading it. :P
  • LOL that conversation sounds like something I would have with mine.

But, no, keep your blog quiet from your family, that way you can rant if needed about things you don't want your family to know. :)

  • My family knows about my blogs. My sister visits often, my mom, and other sister only once in a while. I hope you enjoy your time with your family.

  • Haha, I introduced my family to my blog hoping I get their visits, but no, no one was interested with what I write :)

Oh, I love your mom, her responses are so cute, reminds me of my father who until now resists in using the internet. He told me it is way too difficult for him to remember, but mind you, I did not teach him how to play games in the computer, but he found out how to play them :)

  • I almost fell over with that Chuck Norris line! Never let the mama in on the blog anyhow - it's better than way. I think mine would try to ground my 28-year-old tush if she knew what I was up to.

    Love the Twain quote :o)

  • Yeah, I've pretty much come to that conclusion too: no sharing blog with the mama, lol.
  • haha my mom also thought facebook was a type of cat, gotta love parents lmao
  • LOL. Great stuff. I recently told my family about my blog but I regret it a little. A little of my freedom of writing is gone.
  • Hey what's up? I remember you talking about this conversation before and now since I have read the post it's even funnier. Well I thought I would leave a comment since I'm up & have nothing else to do!
