How to pull an all-nighter

All my procrastinating is catching up with me I’m really busy. I know I don’t do things ahead of time work hard to keep my schedule balanced. In fact if tonight is the night, it will be a first in all my college life. I’ve done it in high school too many times once or twice.  I am sippin on some chai tea in hopes of a caffeine boost. Will go to starbucks first thing tomorrow too. I don’t drink coffee but it’s an emergency.

How to pull an all-nighter:

1. Get some blasting music going to keep you alert try to limit it to Techno and Heavy metal even if you don’t like that stuff.
2. Drink a cup of joe before you get started and by a I mean one anymore and you will probably crash
3. Around 3am-4am take a shower to wake yourself even more, or wait until you start feeling tired
4. If you must take a nap, limit it to no more than 20 minutes
5. Don’t study in your bed or on a couch do so in a hard uncomfortable computer chair where you must sit up
6. Eat something but don’t overdo it. Eating to much will make you tired.
7. Take a break every 50 minutes. The break should be 10 minutes long.
8. Walk around if you need too.
9. Stay focused. Don’t get side tracked!!!
10. Set mini-deadlines and goals: i.e. by 1:00am have chapter 11 covered.

I guess if you are really interested in what you are doing, you wont mind putting an all nighter into it. I like point 9 especially, even during the day that affects my output a lot.

  • I work the over night shift, every Friday, and it is a killer. You give some awesome tips.
  • Let me tell you my friend, I do not like all nighters and I don't plan on pulling another one anytime soon. I used to work shift work and those mid shifts were murder to me. I felt like a zombie by the time I got off and if the truth was known, I probably looked like one too. lol Thanks for the tips on how to stay up all night but I will have to pass on this one.

  • Hi,

I just started using a great product that is giving me a lot of energy without the crash or jitters. I use it every afternoon instead of coffee. Its called CRAVE, you mix it up in a bottle of water and you are good to go for about 6-8 hours.

    I but it from a company called Vitamark and they are in Houston Texas. It costs about $15.00 for 10 packages. Check out their retail website;

The promo code to order is 437058

    good luck studying
  • Ah, great guide. Unfortunately, I too am an aficianado of the all-nighter: enough to confirm that your points are very good ones. I also like to set myself mini-treats to last the hour through, like "when I finish this point well enough, I'll eat this sweet" and so forth. The sugar helps too! Of course, you end up crashing about 3pm the next day, but there has to be a downside somewhere :)

Ewww I remember pulling quite a few of those in college and grad school. No fun! Usually the fear of not getting it done would keep me awake until 3 or 4, then I'd pull out the big guns; dark coffee or expresso.
