I am thinking about pulling the entrecard widget

I am thinking about pulling the entrecard widget. I figured once I got the traffic I desired I’d pull the widget. I had guestimated in my own mind that it would be about a year, but after 2 months I am satisfied with the amount of support I’m getting. I know initially my traffic may go down but I think an advertisement-free blog is really the way to go. I cringe each time I come to a blog filled with advertisements. What do you think?

I’ll be doing it by the the end of today if I decide on doing it. You’ve got about 12 hours to talk me out of it.

Edit: With the comments given I’m leaning more towards keeping the widget, for now. Maybe this time next year I’ll be ready for the transition.

  • I don't want to talk you out of something you may not like. But you have the option on Entre Card so that NO Paid Advertisers can drop. If that makes you feel any better. Every card I drop I check out and post on the blog. Because of Entre Card I have met a bunch of new people, new blogs and have gained so many ideas! I would hate to see you leave it! But you have to do what you feel is right.

  • I support your choice! Personally, I prefer no ad pages, but to each their own.

  • I wish you well whatever you decide. If you get lots of traffic from search engines then that's great. I find even though I have many blogs bookmarked I don't visit as often since they no longer use Entrecard.

  • I was out of entrecard for a while...it hurt my visibility a lot...traffic really went down...no matter how artificial the traffic from entrecard is...it still bring visitors to your sight...how you make the most out of those fleeting visits is really up to you...I know for a fact that it is harder to draw traffic on your own...think about your decision many times before you make your final move! Cheers.

  • I don't mind seeing a reasonable amount of ads on blogs. Some bloggers use their blog to supplement their income. I hate seeing paid posts though, it's like the blogger sold their soul :-(

You could always leave the Entrecard widget up for anyone who wants to drop, but stop dropping yourself.

I don't see the point in visiting 300 blogs your not interested in just to drop a card. I only drop on blogs I'm visiting anyway.

  • Paid posts annoy me too. Especially when you come across a dozen or so that are posting the same paid post. Ads annoy me only when they are used in excess, although I'd prefer going 100% ad free all together. But I suppose you're right any traffic source is better than no traffic source at all.
  • I've kept it for more than a year but I'm going to pull it soon. It brought some good traffic and helped me build my reader, which I believe is probably the extent of its usefulness. Most of the EC blogs I find are worthless to me.

  • Agreed. I despise visiting a massive majority of blogs found on entrecard. I have found some of the "better" and "more interesting" blogs aren't always the most popular. I have found many many better blogs on certain blogging communities such as 20 something bloggers.
  • ooo i've been dropping ec's on your site whenever i do. My cousin talk me into getting one and i don't exactly know what it is for. Haven't had the time to read everything on the site, too lazy heehee.

  • I think entrecard is how I discovered you. (Or maybe it was you that discovered me?)
  • If you do it, let us know how it goes. I think you will be disappointed though.
