I was THIS close to being stung by a bee

I’ve never been stung by a bee in my life and I would like to keep it that way. But one day not too long ago, I was WAY too close for comfort. I was in the basement taking my laundry out of the dryer  when I saw a bumble bee on a jacket. The bee was between me and the door. I didn’t know what to do …I tried to squish it with the jacket but it started flying in the air and towards me. When it went down lower (about 1ft off the ground) I took a running start and jumped over it. If it was videotaped and in slow motion it would have looked like some mid-air karate kick lunge. This was all while I was yelling “help” and everyone in the house thought I was dying or something.

So after I got out of the laundry room with no laundry I forced my brother to take on the bee. We had no bug spray so he went down into the room with lavender spray and counter top cleaner. He wasn’t too sure if he killed the bee but he estimated that he sprayed the lavender spray about 20 times and I’m not sure about the countertop cleaner. He also retrieved my laundry which now smells heavily of lavender.

I told my brother he was my hero but wondered how the bumblebee got into the basement. He admitted that “it’s probably my fault” since about a week prior to this incident, when I wasn’t at home he got locked out the house.  So in order to get into the house he broke down the basement door. Smart kid (note the sarcasm). He even demonstrated how he broke it down, he used the force of his hips repeatedly and swung them around in a circular motion whacking them into the door once every revolution.

He didn’t tell anyone what he did; I’m not sure why because my dad definitely found out the night of the bee incident. At first my dad thought someone had broken into the house, but when he found out it was my brother….that was interesting.

Although the male child makes a lot of stupid decisions,  I still love the kid. He just needs to grow up!!

  • great post
  • glad to see you think so. It would be even better if you had decided to read it though. I shall be deleting your comment due to it's spamminess. Really hope you mind. :)
  • I have only been stung by a bee once. I would not re-do it for anything in the world. (And it wasn't even my fault...the little girl I took to the zoo swatted at it, and then it stung ME! Go figure.)
  • I have been stung by a wasp, but that was back in 69 and I was only 6. Looooong time ago. Although we live almost in the woods with all the trees back the house and we have all kind of insects flying around I haven't been stung so far ...... One year we had to take down a little wasp' nest on the curtain in one of the kids room.
  • ROFL you sound like me. I hate bugs. I would have been screaming. I bet if you video taped it that it would have made it to the funniest videos. LOL

  • Be glad you haven't been stung- it freaking hurts!! At least it was a bumble and not a yellow jacket. Those things scare the bajesus out of me!
  • You remind me of my daughter, she is a beautiful self-possessed young woman who is strong and capable, until she sees a bee and then her eyes bug out of her head and she dances out of its reach like a mad thing. Quite entertaining.

BTW I added your blog to Blog Angels All Above the Crease Drop List. This gives you a permanent link back to your blog. Please consider including the small button link to the list on your site, you can find the button on the list page. It will help others find the list. Thanks & keep on blogging.
  • I do not like any type of insects, including bees. Wasps are not my favorite. Like the others, good you was not stung by the bee.
