It was all a lie – Little April Rose

04-03-06helloconfused_eyesthatslay.jpg I woke up this morning to a very devastating and deceiving thing in the blog world. I have heard of things like this happening, but never on such a large scale.

I came across this  blog about a little miracle named Stellan (his button is in my sidebar). The doctors told his mom surely he would die from heart failure while in the womb. He was born perfectly healthy and had no evidence of heart problems up until a couple months ago, when his heart rate soared into 300s beats per minute.  From this blog I learned of another story. Little April Rose.

Little April Rose was an unborn baby diagnosed with Trisomy 13.  Thousands of people commented on this blog praying for this unborn child.  The blog owner received donations.   There was a play by play on the birth and the afterhours, which I found a bit odd. But April was born alive but her heartbeat was declining.  Then the updates stopped abruptly and soon, I learned, it was all a scam.

I’m trying to be nice….but I seriously wonder what type of sadistic person would fake the life and the death of a baby?  I was compelled NOT to comment on the blog. I knew inside things weren’t adding up.  And when the picture of Little April was that of a doll, I knew.

Whatever the reason for decieivng the blogger world, the person is probably now in some serious legal trouble. They probably need prayers more than ever before.

Hi! I was searching for something else and noticed your topic. I wonder if you're aware of the great work being done on these blogs? The authors are doing an excellent job of trying to keep Rebeccah Rose Beushausen from harming more people. The "April Rose" scam was not her first! http://www.tellthechurch.blogspot.com/

This story makes me sick. What is worse is now that there is a newspaper article people think she is out and suddenly telling the truth. She is not and the majority of the article is a fake.
  • that is very disheartening, so sad some people can even think of it as their means of raising funds.
  • I hope am successful in posting my comment on your site this time.
Thanks tellie for sharing this eye opening story. It's the first time in my ( although only a few months old)blogging career I've learnt about something so appalling.

Taking advantage of people's emotions or expecting monetary benefits out of something so lame is definitely unthinkable and unpardonable.

I liked your decision of 'NOT' leaving any comments on such a site.

Keep up the good work :)

    Cheers!!

  • OMG! that's so lame! Whoever they are, they'll get what they put out faking and lying to other people. That's really disturbing. :(

  • There are so many scammers online, it is hard to tell which ones are not, sometimes. I hope they can find this person, to pay back the money, unfortunately that probably will not be the case.

  • this is sick and sad... i went over MCK mama's site and read her post about April Rose. i guess B needs the prayers more today than any other day. these scammers make it all the more difficult for charities and just causes to be supported because people tend to think twice and question its "legitimacy".

  • I hate scammers!! Grrrr...

All they think about is tricking people to part with their money. They want money minus the hard work...

But what goes around comes around!

  • I actually don't think this person wanted "money" more so than the attention she got from the story.
  • That is such a sad story, who would do that?! Sick I tell you, but then I think this is the internet and people do awful things, not everyone has a conscious nor morals - although I wish they did. I am sick of scammers .. why can't we all just get along and be genuine?!

  • I heard about this earlier and it made me sad :( If she's faking, I feel horrible for everyone involved using prayer energy and especially those who donated... and if she's not faking, I feel horrible for her being accused of it while she's already going through a traumatic time. Either or scenario is just horrid. :(

I have stopped following a number of blogs re: children and various conditions, because I am sure half if not all of them are fictious. This womans story was so out there. Very strange. The pieces didn't fit together, and there had been some speculations WEEKS before she "delivered" that this site was fake. They are saying that the pic on her website of "April" was that of a doll. Isn't that really creepy? God or someone help her. Unfortunately she will be back - in the form of another blog somewhere...
  • That's disgusting. It's the first time I've heard of it. These people are heartless.

Early last year I blogged about Serena, a child with heart disorder. The family asked for help to bring her to the US so she can be treated. There were a lot of donations too, but just two weeks later, Serena passed away. I've heard the parents returned the donations.

  • Internet-Muchausen's by proxy? It's awful to play with people's emotions like that but taking money from them is just despicable.
  • After some googling I learned the term is Munchhausen by internet.
  • I've heard of these kinds of stories far too often. I frequent a blogging site called LiveJournal, and there is an entire community on trying to catch people who fake diseases, pregnancys, you name it. Something is obviously missing in people's lives that they would have to do that sort of thing. I'm so sorry it happened to you, it sucks to feel duped :(
