Being nice never got anyone anywhere…except heaven

I have come to terms that being rude gets the job done around here.  Which is exactly why all the postal workers at my school know me by name. My expectations may be too high, but I expect my packages to be found in a timely manner.  Don’t get me wrong I do try to be nice but after 30 minutes of waiting, I get bored and yelling makes things interesting and plus my packages get found a lot faster.

When my internet goes out instead of calling the help desk once, I call them dozens of times.  This is only because I know I have shortened my wait from 10 days to 10 minutes.  Sometimes I call so many times that I have multiple maintenance people coming to my room in one day. Oops.

And you don’t want to know what I did when my dorm’s water heater was broken…

Am I wrong?

  • Being on the other end of the line, sometimes it's not that persons fault that you are sacrificing and it's completely out of their hands, and because of that they have a bad day and go home in a foul mood and who knows what could happen. They could beat their dog, their wife, their children? One thing I have learned well is patience because I've seen all too well what happens to people who work hard yet at the end of the day instead of reward of a good job, someone has ripped them a new a**hole. Seems like a lousy existence.
  • This may be true, in certain cases but while at my school I am very aware of how the system works. The reason why most things don't get done around here is due to pure laziness, also a lot of the employees are student hires who'd rather be on the computer or texting than doing actual work. For example, if I pick up a package from the post office 2 days in a row, the second time around it takes me 15 minutes to even CONVINCE the student hires at the post office to even get off of facebook and start looking for my package. Apparently they cannot fathom a person getting 2 different packages 2 days in a row.

I can't say your wrong because sometimes things have to be that way. When my internet goes off, I do the same thing. I feel they'd pay much attention to persistent callers, lol.
  • It's a sad truth that many times this is the way to get things done. On the other had...heaven sounds like a pretty nice place to go! ;-) I remember my mother used to say "Kill them with kindness"...but unfortunately many times that strategy just doesn't seem to work! Thanks for the thoughts, prayers...and comment! Gonna peruse around here a little more! ;-)
  • Ha ha. I hear ya tho, sometimes I try for the sweet and "oh please help" approach and then finally I give up and it's like, just take care of it.
  • I have noticed this too. I'm usually too nice and patient, but anger definitely gets you a lot further with airlines, for example.
