Haiti

Haiti.

Why are some of us so lucky as to be born into wealthy, educated countries, where opportunities abound and troubles are comparatively few? And why are others (no less in my God’s eyes than we) born into troubled places where poverty, disease, violence, and natural disasters seem to rain down from the sky?   -Tom Foreman

  • This is a question that I cannot erase from my mind these days. My thoughts and prayers are with all those in Haiti but I cannot help but question why? Why a nation that could not handle this disaster?

  • I don't think we can know the true answer to this. In times of disaster, I am always reminded how fortunate I am to be living the life I'm living.

I also think we're called to action. "For of those to whom much is given, much is required."
  • Great quote. It can really be discussed at length but simply it really is just nobody's fault, I think. These natural disasters are just from mother nature - nowhere else. They happened long before there were people here to suffer from them. As for the poverty, it really is unfortunate but I truly think that people who do have things really do show that we can give, especially in times like these.

I've read this quote five times now. It really resonates with me. Things just don't seem fair.
