On a whim I’ve decided to compact four years worth of college into three.  Meaning I should be graduating this year (provided that I don’t fail any classes). My #1 reason for doing this is because I absolutely hate my school.  I know college years are suppose to be the best years of your life, and frankly, this isn’t the best years of my life.  But in order to avoid being sued by my own institution I won’t begin to list the 242934 reasons why my school is probably one of the worst ever.  But it is. Seriously.

This semester will probably be super duper crazy.  I’ll be taking a grand total of 8 classes, and will attempt to get into graduate school while maintaining grades good enough to maintain my scholarship.

This means this year will be the craziest school year ever. But as a reward I will be able to escape this hellhole place of higher learning.

Indiana Jones

So I mentioned I am currently out of town for the next 7 weeks or so. I guess I should provide a little more details. I know all this ambiguity is killing ya.  I am in Indiana.

Well, I flew in last weekend into this immaculately furnished apartment.

I was delighted that the sheets made of, what appears to be a thin layer of cheap itchy felt!!

Oh boy are the nights just lovely. Especially with the lows dipping into the forties at times. The sheets are just the perfect way to stay warm!

I know you love what we have done with the place. (Yes I am being sarcastic!)

Well what am I doing here? To be honest I don’t know. I just got paid $1,000+ to sleep in all day and wander around my new temporary home. I should have “work” to do sometime this week…maybe. But that’s what they said last week.  Either way I’ve gotten to meet a great group of new friends and here is approximately a third of the group (nope I’m not in that picture )

I kind of enjoy being paid to be earth friendly (i.e. laying in bed all day instead of polluting the environment by driving around in a car, heck i even use less oxygen by staying calm, cool, and collected beneath my warm itchy covers, while playing sims3)

Yes, I promise to take more pictures, but please bear with me. I’m still getting over the lack of my Nikon and the lack of my new lens (which I have heard has FINALLY arrived at my house safe and sound!)

Reason #242934 I can’t wait to get off campus.

The cafeteria food.

I’d swear they’re trying to poison me…

…except I don’t swear.   Every time I eat in my schools cafeteria I get stomach pains.  Some days they aren’t that bad but other days they are intense.

I’ve lost over 10lbs since Freshman year.  The freshman 15 DOES NOT EXIST AT MY SCHOOL!!! They feed us stuff that dogs wouldn’t eat (I’ve seen it).

If you think I’m over exaggerating. Think again.  I have never been more serious about a health hazard in my life.  They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Sometimes I wonder how people even get into college. I don’t mean to be rude either. I seriously wonder…

It’s that time of the year.  So I probably won’t be updating for the next week or so.  Wish me luck!!

How I’m graduating college debt free…

One day when I was 17 and still in high school I got a call from the US government and they offered me a job on the spot.  Yes, at age 17.  They agreed to pay for my school, my books, even to give me a laptop and $1,000/yr in travel money.  I accepted the offer, and I’m glad I did.  I have a guaranteed job as soon as I am done with college AND I don’t have to go through the interview process.  In today’s economy I don’t have to worry about anything when it comes to finding a job!

Since I’ve been in college I’ve actually made money and I haven’t spent a penny neither have my parents. There are many college opportunities out there that require just a 3.0 GPA and a 1000 SAT score on Math and Verbal.

A good way to get school funded is to apply for scholarships.

In addition to the Bill Gates Millenium Scholarship, and all other well. known scholarships try some of the governmental websites.  Most government agencies offer some sort of scholarship and most only require the aforementioned 3.0 GPA and 1000 SAT.

There are many benefits that come from working for the government including job stability, retirement plan, guaranteed healthcare (yes you can get health insurance WHILE in school), etc. This is the type of scholarship I obtained and it allows me to do internships that are really intune with my major. Last summer I got to participate in some very important multilateral negotions amongst the WTO and member nations. Also many governmental programs will pay all the way up to your PhD.

You must also be willing to make some sacrifices.  Maybe you can’t get a full ride scholarship to a private school, but you can get a full ride to a state public school.

If it saves you $400,000 take it! I myself had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life when it came to colleges. I got accepted to #9 school in America but because it cost $40,000 a semester I decided to go and save some money.  It was hard at first, and I had some regrets too, but now I am happy I did so.  I know I can still attend the school for graduate school if I so choose, I still have all the credentials and then some.

In addition to all of this I work during summer and winter breaks. I make about $5000+ during the summers and $1500+ during the winter breaks for a grand total of $6500 a year. So after 4 years of college I will have earned $26,000 from internships alone.

In addition to all of this I make sure to take full advantage of all things that come with my scholarship.

I live on campus and eat in the cafeteria.   I don’t do fast food (well maybe once a month), and I don’t pay for extra meals. Although the cafeteria doesn’t have the best food I hear its better than most campuses and it saves me money.

Also I get $700 for books each semester. I then borrow books from the library or from friends and end up only spending $200 for books I can’t find elsewhere or other supplies.

Keep a tight budget

I try not to go overboard with the spending but every once and a while I’ll buy a new “gadget” but I think I deserve it

How to pull an all-nighter

All my procrastinating is catching up with me I’m really busy. I know I don’t do things ahead of time work hard to keep my schedule balanced. In fact if tonight is the night, it will be a first in all my college life. I’ve done it in high school too many times once or twice.  I am sippin on some chai tea in hopes of a caffeine boost. Will go to starbucks first thing tomorrow too. I don’t drink coffee but it’s an emergency.

How to pull an all-nighter:

1. Get some blasting music going to keep you alert try to limit it to Techno and Heavy metal even if you don’t like that stuff.
2. Drink a cup of joe before you get started and by a I mean one anymore and you will probably crash
3. Around 3am-4am take a shower to wake yourself even more, or wait until you start feeling tired
4. If you must take a nap, limit it to no more than 20 minutes
5. Don’t study in your bed or on a couch do so in a hard uncomfortable computer chair where you must sit up
6. Eat something but don’t overdo it. Eating to much will make you tired.
7. Take a break every 50 minutes. The break should be 10 minutes long.
8. Walk around if you need too.
9. Stay focused. Don’t get side tracked!!!
10. Set mini-deadlines and goals: i.e. by 1:00am have chapter 11 covered.
